"This New world spirit"

W. W. Ward in "Winning the Peace" Quoted in Public Opinion, London

Most problems are half solved once they have been properly stated and analyzed. It is the superficial view and the lack of close and careful examination that makes them seem difficult and confusing. The querulous query, "Am I my brother's keeper?" has to be changed to the exhortation, "Love thy neighbour as thyself," before the ills of mankind can be solved. That is why we should all while concentrating on our work during working hours, spare some time in considering not only what the war means to us personally, but what it means nationally and internationally. When peace comes it will bring with it wonderful opportunities for making a fresh start....

Peace may form the foundations upon which can be built a new world if only we realize, each in his own small way, the opportunities it will offer us. We have not all got to be great statesmen or clever scientists, physically powerful or mentally brilliant. No army is composed solely of generals.
