Feeding Earth's Famine

The solution for replenishing the world's apparently ravaged food supply is in Mind, not matter. Mortals are limited to what is at present classified by material laws as proper human food; but there exists an inexhaustible store of true nourishment, yet to be discovered in infinite Mind.

Even human history hints that the real need is for life-giving ideas, and not merely for greater production of known foods. From the beginning of time, mankind has undergone periods of famine when most of its available food sources were cut off either by war or by plague; but new sources have often been discovered. At various times someone has had the vision to develop new edibles from something which had previously been thought either poisonous or useless.

Is not God's provision for His children stated in Genesis 1:29: "And God said. Behold. I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat"? Hence we can have confidence that the immediate need will be met, and pray that ignorant beliefs of life and substance in matter may give way to a better understanding of God's providence. This was the method of Christ Jesus in feeding the multitudes, and it is the method of Christian Science. Jesus tenderly fed his followers with the bread and fishes at hand, because that was their need at the moment; but he also said, "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger."
