Preventive and Curative Arts

When, in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy wrote (p. 369), "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood," she made a revolutionary statement. Here Mrs. Eddy shows that true "psychology" is "the Science of Spirit, God," and, when understood, it eliminates fear and both forestalls and heals disease through Mind.

Mrs. Eddy was herself instantaneously healed of injuries received from a severe fall. It was this healing which proved to her conclusively that she had discovered the divine law of Life. After testing this law thoroughly in applying it to the human need, she gave her discovery to the world in her textbook and other writings. It is in this book that the preventive and curative arts are made plain.

Careful study of the Christian Science textbook, together with the Bible, will enable the student to prevent the development of disease and heal the sick as the Bible teaches. Thus he will prove true the words of Mrs. Eddy in her sermon, "Christian Healing" (pp. 17, 18), "If sickness and death came through mind, so must they go; and are we not right in ruling them out of mind to destroy their effects upon the body, that both mortal mind and mortal body shall yield to the government of God, immortal Mind?"
