"Thy presence"

"Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" (Psalms 139:7.) The Psalmist's question is answered indirectly on page 275 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, where she writes, "Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,—that is, all power, all presence, all Science."

Since God is infinite Mind or Spirit, naught exists outside of God; naught the opposite of God has any real existence. In other words, the truth of Mind's—Spirit's—allness signifies that that which men call matter or evil has no reality. In thus declaring the allness of Mind or Spirit and making known the fact of the unreality of matter or evil, Christian Science solves the riddle of the ages. Mortals may continue to dwell on the problem of matter or evil, may continue to reason on the seeming presence and origin of matter or evil, but the problem has been solved: there is in reality no matter, no evil, since God, good, is All-in-all.

In taking its stand for the allness of Mind, for the truth that Mind is the only real presence and power, Christian Science has immeasurably advanced the progress Spiritward of the human race. For as long as men regard evil as real, meaning thereby that good is limited in presence and power, they are confronted with a mental difficulty which continually offers resistance to their spiritual advance. But let so-called evil be seen by them in the light of divine Science, let them regard it in the illumination of spiritual understanding as an unreal or illusory concept, and the way of escape from its suggestions is plainly revealed.
