If Only We Could See

If only we could always see
That these great mountains which appear
To bar the path for you and me
Are insubstantial mounds of fear!

If only we could understand,
Whenever tribulations seem
To overwhelm on every hand,
That they are just an empty dream!

But, ah, they seem so real until
The Word of Truth comes to our aid,
And at its loving, "Peace, be still,"
These vaunting terrors droop and fade.

When in the night of fear we grope
Our way through what is sad and wrong,
Truth always points a star of hope,
Love always brings an angel song.
