Awakening

Awakening out of one of the little dreams of sleep
I wonder a moment is it night or morn,
But through this resurrection my sense of being I keep,
And with refreshment arise as one newborn.

A sleeper lies helpless, you say, and cannot himself defend—
Said he: I will rest in sleep, and I shall arise!
He builded his faith upon Life, that it will not fail or end,
And with confidence in Being he closed his eyes.

Let us go on unfearing till all that can die shall die,
For thus we shall gain renewing, thus know release;
Through changes, greatenings, gladness, the I shall still be I
Till oneness with Life shall bring ineffable peace.
