Walking in the Spirit

THE rich promises assured to those "who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit," are so inevitable that the earnest seeker for health, harmony, happiness, and peace may realize them to-day if he will study and embrace the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy, as expounded in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in conjunction with the Bible.

Paul said, "Whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?" The realization of God's presence, of His power and love, completely eliminates every false testimony of the carnal mind,–the "envying, and strife, and divisions." To "walk in the Spirit," hand in hand with God, is to become conscious that man made in the image and likeness of God is never for an instant separated from God, in whom "we live, and move, and have our being."

What must we do to gain this consciousness,–this peace, joy, and contentment for which mankind is hungering? There is just one answer: "Pray without ceasing"! In teaching his disciples, Jesus inculcated the great necessity of faith in prayer; for he once told them that if their prayers were righteous, and if they but believed, they would receive what they asked for. On page 2 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes: "Are we benefited by praying? Yes, the desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void." What an affluence of truth, comfort, and encouragement these words convey to those who desire righteousness and purity, and who yearn to walk with God and to serve in His vineyard!
