The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (First Church).

Lecturer: The Rev. Andrew J. Graham. Introducer: Bernhard Pedersen.

It is recorded in the fourth chapter of Luke's gospel that Jesus, in the early part of his ministry, came to Nazareth and, entering into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, stood up and read from the book of Isaiah that wonderful message of comfort and assurance: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." After he had finished, he closed the book and said to those present, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." The healing works of our Master bore ample testimony to the fulfillment of the words of Isaiah. Wherever he preached the gospel, the sick and sinning were healed and the sorrowing comforted. To-day, as never before, the world is in need of healing, and in the midst of darkness and doubt humanity is crying out for light. Christian Science has come as the light that shineth in darkness, to bring again to the world, in all its purity and power, the truth which Jesus taught. Through its loving ministrations the sick are being restored to health and the sinful regenerated. From my own personal experience I can, with deep gratitude, testify to the healing power of Christian Science, for it delivered me from a number of ailments of several years' standing after material remedies had failed.
