The Lectures

Liverpool, England (Second Church).—Miss Irene Carr-Owen made the following prefatory remarks at a Christian Science lecture, given especially for children, by Judge Samuel W. Greene:—

It was in the Christian Science Sunday School that I learned how to "be about my Father's business;" and there is one good thing to know,—that we are never too young to begin our work for the Father. In the Bible there are many stories about children; and I expect you all know the prophecy that Isaiah gives us about peace, or the millennium,—how all the animals are to dwell happily together, the great lions and leopards and wolves lying down with the calves and the little lambs, and a little child leading them. Now, I think Isaiah must have known how gentle a little child could be, and how it is a little child's work in life to express gentleness, and so bring in peace. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, also knew what good work could be done by children and young people, for she has allowed them to help in many of the activities of the Christian Science movement. In writing to the children Mrs. Eddy has said (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 110), "Beloved children, the world has need of you, --and more as children than as men and women: it needs your innocence, unselfishness, faithful affection, uncontamiated lives."
