[Written for the Sentinel]

The Lesson of the Sunset

In the golden hour of sunset,
When the birds begin to nest,
Comes a sweet sense of His presence
And a calm and peaceful rest.

And I find my thoughts uplifted
As I gaze upon the sky,
As I read the radiant promise
Of the Love that ne'er can die.

Then the golden clouds grow dimmer
As the sun sinks in the west,
And the glow of twilight deepens
As though it the world caressed.

But the wondrous promise lingers,
For it never can depart;
It remaineth now, as ever,
To refresh each hungering heart.
