It is with a grateful heart that I wish to tell of the blessings...

It is with a grateful heart that I wish to tell of the blessings I have received through Christian Science. A little over three years ago my five-year-old son was taken with rheumatism in a severe form, to which was added a serious heart trouble. When two years ago he again became dangerously ill with both ailments, the rheumatism manifested itself especially in the head and neck, so that the latter seemed twisted. He could not sleep either day or night on account of the pain, and he took hardly any nourishment. The physician called daily at first, then his visits became less frequent, although my son's condition did not improve in the least. When I voiced my discouragement and remarked that the patient was not gaining, I inferred from the doctor's manner that he was unable to afford help. A physician from another locality pronounced the heart trouble very serious, saying that the child would not live much longer. We were helpless and perplexed, not knowing what to do next. We had used all the remedies which had been recommended, but they were of no avail.

In dark and hopeless times such as these, one often comes to see that material means can afford no help, and then thought turns heavenward and seeks help from the all-loving Father. As if guided by divine Providence, our attention was then called to Christian Science. Fully trusting in God, I went to a practitioner, who gave me some literature on the subject. While reading this, my wife and I remarked to each other that we had found what we wanted. Some time afterward the practitioner asked us to bring our child to her within the next few days. I wrote to her, saying that it would probably be impossible to undertake the trip on account of the boy's condition, as he had become so emaciated, but a great change soon took place, for the child grew quiet, and sleep, which he had not had for weeks, returned.

When the boy awoke, he felt very much better, so that we thought we would venture to start on the trip. Whereas formerly the least movement would cause pain, noting seemed to inconvenience him on this journey. The practitioner bestowed all care upon him in the most loving way, explained a few points to him as well as to his mother, and then treated him. He had been driven to the station in the morning, but when he returned in the evening, he said that he felt able to walk. After this, absent treatment was given for some time and there was daily improvement. His appetite and strength returned, and the heart action became more regular, but the head did not seem to get into its normal position. This condition, however, was overcome eventually, and I can say with a grateful heart that my son is completely restored, and he has had no other ailment since, although a considerable time has elapsed.
