All Christian Scientists are prepared to put to practical...

Farmville (Va.) Herald

All Christian Scientists are prepared to put to practical test the teachings of Christian Science in so far as they may apprehend and understand them, but this test of their knowledge of Christian Science does not consist in attempting foolhardy feats, but must be earnest, honest efforts to lift the burden of sin and suffering for themselves and others through obedience to the commandments of Jesus Christ, and in a spirit of humility and meekness endeavor by their lives to bring to this sin-sick world a fuller knowledge of the teachings of Jesus Christ, whereby men may obtain present salvation from sickness and suffering as well as from sin. It is recorded in the New Testament that the devil took Jesus up into the holy city and set him on a pinnacle of the temple and tempted him to cast himself down, and that Jesus said to the devil, "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Would it be wise for any body of Christians to forget or ignore this example of the Master, and in opposition to the same attempt to do that which he put from him as a temptation from the evil one?
