• The Christian Science Sentinel is a weekly publication founded by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. She gave the Sentinel its purpose—to "hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love," and its motto, in Jesus’ words: “What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353 and Mark 13:37).
• The Sentinel has been continuously published since 1898.
• The Sentinel continues to watch over current issues and thought trends, showing how the healing power of Truth, Life, and Love activates, uplifts, and transforms people’s lives.
• The Sentinel content is available online and in print via monthly and yearly subscriptions.

Sentinel content is available in text and audio online, and through a weekly printed magazine. The digital edition is optimized for use on mobile devices, computers, eReaders, and tablets. If you subscribe to the weekly Sentinel print edition, it will be mailed to your home. Individual copies can be purchased from your local Christian Science Reading Room.

New Sentinel content is published weekly in print. Online articles/audio features in our digital edition are updated both weekly in support of the print edition and more frequently to address pressing world issues—in the form of podcasts, new and archived material, TeenConnect articles, and other digital content.

• Each Sentinel begins with an editorial leading you into the issue and framing a spiritual watch. This content is about the practice of Christian Science, whether related to current events or individual needs.
• The Keeping Watch section includes articles, poems, and short features from people who share with honesty and simplicity the spiritual insights coming from living Christian Science.

Verified accounts of spiritual healing tell how Christian Science has healed disease and transformed lives.

• The Bible Lens consists of scholarly research that is compiled each week to support the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons. Explore historical notes, definitions, Greek and Hebrew terms, and select verses from alternate Bible translations to enhance your study of each week’s Bible Lesson.
• You’ll find the Bible Lens at the back of each issue of the print Sentinel or by visiting the Sentinel landing page and scrolling down to the tile for the current week’s Bible Lens.

Visit Sentinel.ChristianScience.com and navigate to the “Audio” tab to access the audio of the full issues and individual articles as well as Sentinel Watch and other podcasts.

• A QR code stands for “Quick Response” and is a square-shaped bar code read by a smartphone. You’ll find QR codes in the print edition of the Sentinel that will direct you to additional articles and content online. Watch this short video to learn more about how to use QR codes.
  1. Use the camera app on your smartphone to scan the QR code. You do not need to actually take a picture of the code, just aim your camera at it.
  2. A web-browser link will pop-up on your smartphone. Tap the link to be directed to the online Sentinel content.

Content starts on the cover page to more immediately get into the issue. It is representative of the fact that the Sentinel is not just a product or a magazine, but a call to prayerful action and an experience.

This week’s issue is featured on the Sentinel homepage. As you scroll down this main page, you’ll find a tile for each piece of content in the issue.

• You can enjoy one free piece of online content from both the Christian Science Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal before being invited to subscribe or sign up for a 30-day free trial (no card required).

• The digital Sentinel includes the audio edition of each issue as well as exclusive podcasts such as Sentinel Watch. Use the “Audio” tab from the Sentinel homepage for quick access to current audio content.
• To access This Week’s audio issue, please look for the “Listen to entire issue audio” button toward the top of the Sentinel landing page

The “Featured” section is a landing page where you can access all digital-first Sentinel content: Sentinel Watch, audio articles, as well as web articles that address timely topics. Screen reader support enabled.

• Users can download all content published within the last 90 days. Older content is available to read or stream online.
• The latest Sentinel issues are available in color PDF, printer friendly PDF, and eBook formats (ePub and MOBI).
• Audio editions of the Sentinel are also available for download. Individual articles from the latest issues can be downloaded as MP3 tracks from each article page, or the entire audio issue can be downloaded from the “Audio” page or by following the links to “Listen to the entire issue” and using the download buttons.

• When you click on the “Listen” button, the audio player includes a button that reads “Download MP3.” Click this button.
• If the audio opens in a new browser window, but does not download to your computer, you will need to right-click the button and select “Download linked file” or “Save link as.” Save the MP3 file to your desktop.
• Once you have downloaded the audio, you can import it to iTunes by dragging and dropping the file from your desktop into iTunes. You can also import it into iTunes by opening iTunes and clicking File→ Add to Library and selecting the audio file.

When logged in as a JSH-Online subscriber, users can select the “Audio” tab from the Sentinel page and scroll down to the “More audio” section.

• At this time, the audio content on the Sentinel digital site has not been transcribed beyond title, guest name, date, introduction, and description. This information is included with each audio podcast, chat, or program. However, text of some podcasts is sometimes featured in the print edition and is edited for length.
• Sentinel Radio and other audio programs that have previously been transcribed and published in the print periodicals are available to subscribers in the JSH-Online archive.

• Sentinel and JSH-Online subscribers will receive weekly email notifications alerting them to new issues, podcasts, and content as they are published.
• Subscribers can modify their email notification preferences by using the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the notification email.

When logged in as a JSH-Online subscriber, you can bookmark content that you would like to save to your Bookmarks folder.

• You can enjoy one free piece of online content from both the Christian Science Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal (1883 - today) before being invited to subscribe or sign up for a 30-day free trial (no card required).

With each piece of content you will see a “Share” icon that allows you to share individual pieces via email, Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp.

This feature allows you to access content that has been translated into other languages and published in The Herald of Christian Science. If this button is gray and not functioning, it means that a translation does not exist.

While there isn’t currently an app for the Sentinel for your mobile device, you can add the Sentinel digital website to the home screen of your smartphone to quickly and easily access the Sentinel homepage with just a tap. See below for step-by-step instructions.

• Most mobile web browsers allow you to add “app-like” icons to your device’s home screen for quick and easy access to your favorite websites. The Christian Science Sentinel offers one of these unique mobile home screen icons.
• The steps for adding a linked icon to your home screen depend on the device and the browser you are using.
  1. Open cssentinel.com in your browser.
  2. On Apple’s iPad/iPhone default Safari browser, tap the share icon and then select the “Add to Home Screen” option.
  3. On Android devices, open the browser’s “Menu” options. Depending on the browser, you may have an option to “Add shortcut to home” directly from the menu or you may first need to bookmark the page.
  4. After bookmarking the page, navigate to your browser’s bookmarks via the “Menu” option, tap and hold the bookmark you would like to add to your home screen, and then select the add to home screen option.
  5. You can edit the name displayed below the icon when you save it to your device’s home screen.
  6. Go to your phone’s home screen to confirm your new icon.
