Angels at our side

I FIRST SAW HER REFLECTION in the mirror over the sink. She was leaning against the wall of the airport ladies room, sobbing. My eyes quickly went from the mirror to the woman, and in a moment my arms were around her. "You are not alone — God is with you, and loves you so very much." Those words seemed to speak themselves after I was love-propelled to her side. She stopped crying momentarily and looked into my eyes. I knew that she had heard what I'd said.

A friend was waiting to pick me up outside the airport, so I had to leave her. But as I left, I saw another woman who had witnessed the scene. She had a look on her face of such love and compassion that I felt she was there to carry on the comforting.

I thought for a long time about that attractive, well-dressed woman who'd been in such distress, and I kept her close in my prayers. Although she may not have had friends or family to dry her tears, I knew that God was with her and that my comforting was tangible evidence of His love. I had felt Love permeate that room and embrace us all. This Mother-love was with her still — in the words of a hymn,
