Christian Science brought healing and a transformed life

When I first attended a Sunday service at a Church of Christ, Scientist, I was greatly impressed with a passage from Science and Health called "the scientific statement of being." Although I was a registered medical nurse, I decided to read Science and Health and to look into this passage further.  It says: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual" (p. 468). At first, I found these ideas contrary to my reasoning. Yet, I wrote the passage down, read it, reread it, and thought about it constantly.

One night while on a home case, I was called to assist my patient. As I hastened, I tripped over a footstool and frightened the small dog, who chased after me and bit me. After caring for the person's need, I saw that the injury to my ankle and shin was alarming.

The thought came to me to pray about the injuries, using as my basis for prayer "the scientific statement of being." I began thinking about the ideas in this statement, especially the opening line, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." After praying, I passed the night very peacefully, and the next morning, when I thought of the incident, I realized there was no sign on my ankle or shin of any injury. I was glad and surprised, to say the least! I was also perplexed.
