Walking ‘hand in hand’ with God

During the Liberian civil crisis of the early 1990s, my whole life was in trouble. This is the story of how I eventually came to truly realize that the Lord is my “refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1).

Before the war, my father was a university professor. Life was easy and beautiful, and my world seemed filled with hope and opportunities. But when he was killed in the war, I was frustrated and very confused. The war took away my home and my family, and I had only the support of my school and a few friends. Homelessness, hunger, pressure, and fear confronted me, making life seem meaningless.

Every step I took left and right seemed fruitless, and I thought to myself that I was a failure in life. I always wept and felt totally lost when thinking about my situation. My appearance was so ragged that people thought I was crazy.
