A NEW OUTLOOK BRINGS HEALING

In the fall of 1995, I was suddenly overcome with a severe physical ailment where I could barely whisper, and didn't have breath to speak a complete sentence. Other physical functions were also affected, my muscles ached, and I lost my appetite for most foods, which resulted in a significant weight-loss. A lounge chair became my bed. Even when I tried to read, it was difficult to focus because of all the discomfort.

I had complete faith, however, that I could be healed through prayer. The dedicated and loving work of the Christian Science practitioner I called, as well as the prayerful support of my wife and family, brought me inspiration and healing throughout this period. The family cassette player also got a lot of use. I listened to tapes of Science and Health, of Sentinel Radio programs, and of hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. Steady improvement occurred over the space of weeks, until I was again able to completely dress myself, eat somewhat normally, and feel comfortable about returning to work. Back at the office, I was on a shortened schedule at first. My officemates were very kind and considerate as they observed my gradual return to normal work habits. As I continued to pray, I was assured of God's presence and love. I knew I could lean on His strength. A verse from a hymn was especially encouraging:
