GRATITUDE FOR THANKSGIVING DAY HEALING

Last Thanksgiving Day was memorable because the day began with a healing. An early-morning trip to the bathroom wasn't routine. I experienced fever, followed by chills and other symptoms that left me feeling very weak.

When I started to stand to walk the short distance to get into bed, that didn't seem to be a good idea. After crawling a few inches, I felt the need to lie down on the floor. Lying there, I asked myself, "Are you afraid because you are alone?" Then I remembered that I was scheduled to be head usher at the Thanksgiving service at the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in my community, but I dismissed that concern as secondary.

Although I was alone in the house, I knew I could never be separated from our Father-Mother God, who is always present. As I curled up on the small bathroom rug with one cheek touching the rug, I realized that God was as close to me as my cheek was to the rug. I also recalled part of a testimony I'd heard a number of years ago. When a woman awoke one night feeling ill, she went into the bathroom and lay down on the floor. As she lay there, she paraphrased the beginning line of a familiar Bible passage, so that the wording applied specifically to her: "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on me, that I should be called the daughter of God" (see I John 3:1). Later, her husband found her and led her back to bed, where she fell asleep and woke up healed.
