STORYTELLING HAS CHANGED MY LIFE

My journey with the Bible as story began when I took a job in a church-sponsored Bible activity center. But the idea of "telling" took an exciting turn when I discovered the Network of Biblical Storytellers (NOBS), and Tom Boomershine and other people who were alive with joy and a sense of mission. Since then I've attended three NOBS annual Festival Gatherings, opening my world to the extraordinary people who tell Bible stories with conviction in the power of story to elevate and inspire.

Becoming a teller of Scriptural tales is much more than finding a community of good people who share a love of the Bible. Each story told is a journey that moves me deeply, spiritually. When I work and pray to "get" a Bible story—conversing with God about His Story—I feel submerged, not just in the history surrounding the story, but also in things timeless.

For me that submerging is not quick immersion, but plunging in to feel God right there on the path as Ruth and Naomi trudge to Bethlehem; or there on a hillside as Jesus thanks God for feeding the multitude, before it's actually happened! And right there with Paul the Apostle as he assures everyone that Eutychus, who has fallen from the topmost loft, is not dead but very well indeed.
