A mental protest brings healing of disease

When my wife and I were living in Saudi Arabia, I was on contract as a cost engineer for building projects. Over the course of several weeks, I had been troubled by a condition that was leaving me increasingly lacking in energy. I was also passing blood in my urine.

A Christian Scientist since my teens, I made an effort to treat this condition through prayer. But while my wife and I were on holiday visiting our home in England, I decided to go for a medical examination to determine the nature of the problem. The diagnosis indicated that I was suffering from bilharzia, a debilitating tropical disease considered fatal if not treated. The diagnosis suggested that the disease originated in still waters in hot climates. This matched up with the fact that for recreation I occasionally went swimming in a pond near my home in Saudi Arabia. The physician gave me a set of 14 pills and told me that I had to take the entire series.

Because of my continuing discomfort, I accepted the prescription. But after taking only three of the pills, I experienced troubling side effects, and I ended up in hospital. At this point, I turned totally to prayer.
