The best thing about Tiger Woods is that he defines excellence up. So much of what we see and live with in America today is about standards defined down. This is true of our media, literature, cinema, politics, education, attire, language, and culture. Amid this shabbiness, Woods shines. He measures himself against greatness. . . . He has achieved it in part because he never allowed himself to think of anything less.
