My grandparents wanted me to take care of their guest house...

My grandparents wanted me to take care of their guest house while they were away. Before they left, they'd had very few guests. But while they were away, every room and the two apartments were filled to capacity! Even though I was busy, I also had the first healings that I'd had on my own without my parents to help me.

One night it rained during the evening. The next morning many fish were swimming in the shallow waters near the beach. My cousins and I tried to catch them. I went up to the main house to get some bacon for bait. I took the bacon out of the refrigerator and set it on the electric stove. I heard it sizzle. I thought that unusual; so I tested the burner by placing the palm of my hand directly on it. It was extremely hot. I took the bacon and a net and started walking back to the beach. While I walked I prayed to understand "the scientific statement of being." It begins with the words: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468). By the time I reached the sea wall and beach, I couldn't remember which hand I had burned. I had been healed that quickly! We didn't catch any fish that day, but that wasn't important. I knew God was with us.

Each morning my cousins and I would read the Lesson-Sermon found in the Christian Science Quarterly. One morning my cousin remarked that her eye had been bothering her. She seemed to have a sty on her eye. We talked about God and looked at the spiritual interpretation of God in the Glossary of Science and Health. Part of it describes Him as "the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal" (p. 587). As God's reflection, my cousin could only be perfect, as He is. She went off on her own to study what Science and Health says in the Glossary about eyes: "Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental" (p. 586). The next morning, her eye was healed.
