Our disposition—Godlike

Man is God's image and likeness, Godlike in every way. Discovering what God is, one finds a standard for behavior that he can aspire to as he turns to Christian Science to heal unwanted dispositional traits. Whatever is unlike God is unlike the man of His creating, and through an understanding of what this means, human dispositions can be purified.

Christianly scientific treatment of dispositional problems involves far more than learning to live with, and perhaps curb, certain propensities. And such treatment offers more satisfying change than merely trying to remake a mortal personality. By understanding spiritual man scientifically, we discover the nature of Godlikeness and find the freedom to follow more closely the great Exemplar, Christ Jesus.

It is axiomatic that a person can have a pleasing personality and even a smooth disposition and still have little reliable good in his character. Recognizing this, we sometimes draw a conclusion that a sterling character may be excused a bad disposition. But this false conclusion simply saddles such a one with heartache. No one need be burdened with a bad disposition, and all should expect to improve constantly in this area. Even the best of human nature needs refining so that we are disposed to act in accord with God.
