As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have many reasons to be grateful for the healing truth Science teaches. But I had never perceived more clearly than through a recent healing, how necessary is a purification of thought to effect a needed change. The rules for practicing Science are infallible and the results sure if we are sincere and faithful and follow them intelligently.

Almost two years ago I became aware of a blemish on my forehead. As it wasn't too noticeable, I gave it cursory attention in my prayers but didn't really get down to specific, deep study of Christian Science. Months went by until one day I awoke to the fact that I'd been unwittingly cherishing a general belief about skin ailments and their supposed causes. I decided to make a consecrated effort to pray about the problem, and I also asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. She assured me that this was an opportunity to go up higher—to gain a fuller understanding of God.

The practitioner told me that mere human goodness, however sincere, wasn't enough, and she referred me to Mrs. Eddy's rousing statement in Rudimental Divine Science (p. 2): "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness." The practitioner also encouraged me to seek my higher purpose in life, to be willing to let God lead me.
