Acknowledge Only the Power of God

Power. What is it? Where is it? Is it important to healing?

Christian Science acknowledges God as the only power. He is always present everywhere. What is more important to healing than an acknowledgment of God's power? His power is wholly spiritual, and there is no power outside Spirit, God.

Christ Jesus was unparalleled in his ability to use spiritual power in the destruction of evil's claims to power. A basic element in his mission was the Christianly scientific practice of healing through the application of spiritual power over evil and materiality. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the devil, evil, threw all the machinations of materiality at Jesus to discourage him. The devil tempted him to abandon what he knew about real power. But Jesus' understanding of the power of God, good, enabled him to resist evil and its claims. Jesus said, "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." The Bible account continues, "Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him." Matt. 4:10,11; Jesus' clear, correct spiritual understanding thwarted all efforts of the tempter to deceive him.
