Blame My Parents?

If you think of yourself as having inherited bad characteristics from parents and ancestors, you may feel you can't change and will have these characteristics all your life. We read in Proverbs, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Prov. 23:7;

One day a friend told me she had inherited flighty, frivolous, nervous characteristics, which she had never been able to overcome. She wondered how Christian Science could be applied to heal such a condition. I told her Science emphasizes that God created man in His image and all that He made is good. Science further teaches that God is man's only true parent. Christ Jesus taught us to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven," Matt. 6:9; and he also said, "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." 23:9;

Speaking of God's nature, Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "God is natural good, and is represented only by the idea of goodness; while evil should be regarded as unnatural, because it is opposed to the nature of Spirit, God." Science and Health, p. 119;
