Perfection Is Possible

We approach healing in Christian Science from the standpoint of perfect God and perfect man—our rule of perfection. Of this rule Mary Baker Eddy states in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The Science of being furnishes the rule of perfection, and brings immortality to light." Science and Health, p. 336; Christian Science makes clear that God's law holds each of us intact in the original spiritual perfection in which God has created us.

John in his first epistle corroborates this rule when he writes, "As he [God] is, so are we in this world." I John 4:17; Because God is always perfect, we, His likeness, must always be perfect. God never changes. So we, His reflection, can never change.

But how can we make such statements when all around us we see sickness and poverty and violence? Do we close our eyes and expect to wish these aspects of evil into oblivion? No. The rule of perfection exposes sickness, poverty, and violence as no part of God's perfect creation, but as false concepts, no more real than a mirage. As we correct these concepts under our rule of perfection, as we realize and put into practice the spiritual truth of being, the material evidence of evil yields.
