Thoughts and Things

When God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked what He should give him, Solomon asked for "an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad." In answer to this selfless request, the Old Testament chronicler tells us, God said, "Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart .... And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour." I Kings 3:9, 12, 13;

Luke reports that Christ Jesus said to his disciples: "The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. ... And your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But ... seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you." Luke 12:23, 30, 31; And in our time, Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Science and Health, p. 1; These three statements, though separated from each other by many centuries, point to the selfsame spiritual truth that God, Spirit, the all-knowing divine Mind, is the source and substance of all life and good.

When men needed a hammer, a wheel, a telephone, or a vehicle to the moon, they did not expect matter to assemble itself into these things. Useful inventions result from intelligence, and intelligence becomes increasingly available to mankind as its source is understood to be spiritual, the emanation of divine Mind.
