The Ecology of Spirit

The flower on the front cover of this magazine is typical of the many varieties of water lily that have beautified earth's lakes and rivers from time immemorial. Yet now it seems that many of these lovely plants are suffering in company with other species of wildlife, weakened and in some cases destroyed by the chemicals and impurities that are being wantonly poured by mankind into the water that is their home and into the air that they breathe. Many people are distressed by this inhumane destruction of nature's wonders and ask, "What can we do to save them from extinction?"

Christian Science shows that there is a way to help the world, and explains that it is identical with the one Christ Jesus proved to be the way to heal the body. It is the understanding and demonstration of true, spiritual being as defined in the Scriptures, through which one can overcome the false, material evidence of discord of every kind.

The Bible says that God created all that was made and that His handiwork is perfect and eternal. It describes this divine universe as populated by an infinite variety of manifestations of God's qualities that are all distinct and individual, immutable and indestructible. It specifies the creation of plants and trees and beasts, as well as men and women. All were created perfect to inhabit the earth, and are maintained in a relationship of perpetual harmony.
