"The Flying Ninety"

[For young teens]

George's newest model airplane was the best one he'd ever built. It had a radio-controlled engine, and he called it "The Flying Ninety" because it cost him ninety dollars. He had saved his money for a long time to get all the necessary parts.

When it was finished, his mother drove him out into the country to a field where radio-controlled flight was permitted. It didn't take long to fill the gas tank and rev up the engine, and in just a few moments the bright red plane soared into the sky.

With the controls George quickly maneuvered "The Flying Ninety" into a smooth circle while it rose higher and higher. But the engine proved too powerful for the small craft. The plane flew so fast that it was soon beyond the control of the radio, and, with the aid of a tail wind, it buzzed straight on out of sight.
