Mary Baker Eddy tells us, "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing" (Science and Health, p. 449). As proof of this statement, I should like to relate my very first healing through Christian Science, which occurred over thirty years ago.

I had been suffering for a couple of years from what was diagnosed as food allergy. I dreaded the very thought of eating because of the distressing skin irritation and eruption which always followed. Finally I was taken to a well-known clinic where I was subjected to many tests, the result being that all foods but four were removed from my diet. Upon leaving the clinic I was told that in a couple of months I might react adversely to the four prescribed foods—in which event more testing would be necessary. All this was most discouraging.

While I was existing on this near-starvation diet, I visited a friend who was a Christian Scientist. Through her I learned of an introductory offer of various Christian Science periodicals. I sent for them. When the first periodical came, I read it avidly, feeling that a whole new world was opening up to me. I was so fascinated with this new concept of God and man that I could scarcely wait for the next issue to come.
