Adherence to the teachings of Christian Science has brought innumerable blessings into my experience. The outstanding healing was at the birth of our first baby. As a young child I had had infantile paralysis. When I went to a doctor to make arrangements for him to attend me at the birth, he examined me and gave the verdict that the muscles that should function at the time of the birth were paralyzed and that a cesarean section would be necessary.

I was relying on Christian Science and did not see the doctor again until the day of my confinement, which took place in our home. A Christian Science nurse had been engaged, and a Christian Science practitioner was helping me. The birth took place two weeks ahead of the time scheduled by the doctor. The day that it occurred the practitioner was away on a vacation, and the nurse was still on another case. In this emergency I turned unreservedly to God for guidance, and within a very short time another practitioner was working for me and another nurse had been engaged.

The doctor spent much of that day at our home, expecting eventually to take me to the hospital for the operation. I shall always be grateful for the faithful practitioner who stayed by me. As the result of her prayerful work the baby was born so harmoniously that the doctor, much to his surprise, had very little to do but rejoice with us at the power of God. The muscles functioned properly. Three years later another son was born quickly and easily. The same practitioner was with me. Remembering these two experiences has never failed to bring comfort and the assurance that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).
