A Glimpse of God as Principle

The importance of understanding God as Principle is noted by Mrs. Eddy in "No and Yes." She writes, "When understood, Principle is found to be the only term that fully conveys the ideas of God,—one Mind, a perfect man, and divine Science." No., p. 20;

Principle suggests the firmness of Love and the unchanging nature of the law and order governing creation, it implies the antithesis of a whimsical, good-bad Jehovah and the opposite of inconsistency, irrationality, and inaccuracy. Happily, Principle is as supreme in the temporal realm as it is in the heavenly, and therefore its good effects can become apparent in human experience.

Hagar's finding of the needed well of water; the dividing of the Red Sea and later of the river Jordan for the children of Israel; Jesus' walking on the waves, stilling the storm, healing the sick, and going his God-directed way regardless of the claims of material resistance—these are but a few of the demonstrations of the control of divine Principle, God, recorded in the Bible.
