RADIO PROGRAM NO. 241 - Meeting the Demands Placed upon Us

Announcer: Many people wish they could get out from under some of the demands being placed upon them, especially when these demands keep growing as they so often seem to these days. Questioner: What do you think one can do in meeting the burdens that circumstances have forced upon him?

Speaker: The way to start is for each one to ask himself what he's accepting as demands made upon him. Are the demands being made upon us legitimate, or are they imposed by conscious or unconscious domination by others. It is one's mistaken impression of the demands that keeps him from carrying out his full responsibility toward the real demands.

Would it seem reasonable to you for somebody who feels he has too many demands on his time to turn to God for a solution to the problem? Questioner: I'm sure this is done, but I wouldn't consider it to be the norm for most people. Speaker: Well, it certainly wasn't for me some years ago, because God to me then was simply a power to be appealed to in an emergency. But I've learned through Christian Science that a deeper understanding of God is the basis for solving all human problems. Take the problem of heavy demands. The feeling of burden exists in our thinking, and the only way we can get rid of it is to put our mental house in order. This means getting a clearer understanding of our relationship to God—what He gives us, and what He demands of us.
