"Thy first acquaintance"

Loneliness can be very distressing and is a far more prevalent condition than is generally realized. Many people live with a sense of emptiness and desolation in their hearts.

The Bible contains many comforting promises for such people, but these promises can only be fulfilled and become practical when their original, or spiritual, meaning is brought to light. This spiritual sense of the Scriptures is revealed in Christian Science.

To a person who feels he needs friends and a sense of belonging, the message of the Bible is, "Acquaint now thyself with him [God], and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee." Job 22:21; God is not a far-off Deity, but is ever-present Love; and when we acquaint ourselves with Him, we unite with infinite Love—ever-present good and boundless bliss. We truly find Immanuel, or "God with us."
