Until a friend invited me to a lecture on Christian Science, I had never heard of this religion. Out of curiosity and to please my friend, I attended the lecture. What a feast it proved to be! From the first to the last word, I instinctively knew that what the lecturer said was true. It seemed that I was hearing what I had always known but had never put into words or even consciously entertained in thought. The lecture launched me into the study of Science, but after a couple of years I wandered into the far country of worldly pleasures.

Some years later I started attending services which were conducted by an informal group of Christian Scientists. With the help of these dear friends, I became an earnest student of Science.

Shortly thereafter, one arm became infected with a painful skin eruption. My husband urged me to seek medical help, but I resisted this suggestion. For hours at a time I studied the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A friend had given me a copy of the Sentinel, and I read every word in that periodical over and over again and pondered it. It did not take long to find that I was cherishing deeply rooted feelings of resentment, revenge, and hatred which were of long standing and which I realized had to be cast out.
