WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on April 15, 1962.]

Fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance (Isa. 35:4)

In view of the statements in this context concerning deliverance and the banishment of fear, the apparent allusion to "vengeance" seems scarcely fitting. The Hebrew word used can be understood as implying that God would "avenge" His people by means of either defense or vindication.

He that is without sin ... let him first cast a stone at her (John 8:7)
