The Solution Within

Among the unsolved problems which bring suffering to mankind today there are few which could not be traced to the belief that a solution is dependent upon a change in someone else's thought but not in our own. The world is threatened with war because others think their way is better than ours. A community lacks adequate schooling because others do not wish to part with the tax money to provide it. A church does not progress because others think apathetically. A home is the scene of strife because someone is unloving. A disease develops in the body because of the frustration that one feels because he is unappreciated.

In every case the solution would seem to lie in a change of thought on the part of others. But Christian Science shows us that the only change needed is on the part of the one who is experiencing the discord.

Christian Science does not condemn the sick person for his sickness, but it teaches how to be free of it. It says, in the words of Christ Jesus (Matt. 11:28, 29): "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me." The "me" referred to is Truth, the Christ, which Jesus so vividly demonstrated. Through Jesus' teaching and example we learn to accept the true status of man as the one Mind's perfect image. Having received an invitation to find rest through Truth from human ills, we cannot blame others if we do not accept it.
