Ellen is a Christian Scientist. One day she had an opportunity to prove what she had learned in the Christian Science Sunday School, which she attended. This is what happened.

It was vacation time. Ellen and her mother were away from home. Near the cabin where they were staying was a large ranch, and they were having dinner there.

When the waitress was setting a bowl of very hot gravy on the table, it spilled on Ellen's dress and arm. The arm was very painful and Ellen began to cry.
