"THE HOLY CALM"

Humanity need not turn to tranquilizing agents to secure peace and calm, for man's harmony, dignity, and dominion are established and remain forever undisturbed. One who understands this cannot be deluded by the subtle suggestion that his mind needs to be soothed or can be soothed by inanimate matter, for he is assured that man reflects the only Mind there is, God, infinite Truth. Truth calms the thought effectively and permanently.

The prophet Isaiah offered these words to comfort his people (26:3, 4): "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength." Of the apostle who faced and surmounted many discords and infirmities, Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous (p. 200), "The holy calm of Paul's well-tried hope met no obstacle or circumstances paramount to the triumph of a reasonable faith in the omnipotence of good, involved in its divine Principle, God."

In Christian Science we learn how to achieve a consistently peaceful state of mind through developing a spiritual understanding of God and of man, His image and likeness. We must also diligently strive to understand that all presentations of discord are without a divine source and are therefore powerless to affect the experience of our conscious, spiritual identity, forever established in Mind, God.
