LOVE KNOWS NO DEADLY THING

Christian Science presents the truth that God, good, cannot produce evil and that, as infinite Love, God cannot produce unloveliness. Part of the definition of "creator," found in the Glossary of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, reads (p. 583), "God, who made all that was made and could not create an atom or an element the opposite of Himself." Hence we draw the conclusion that Love knows no deadly thing.

Divine Love knows that all is good. What Love knows, man knows by reflection. Love's knowing is expressed through man's identity and action and is reflected in man's being. Love's knowing includes all power. Man knows true atomic action and power because they are reflections of divine action and power. Only the power and energy known by Love are known by man; there is no other power. Since Love, God, knows no deadly thing, man, God's image and likeness, knows no deadly thing.

Christ Jesus reflected what God knows of man; he knew man's immunity from all destructive forces. Accordingly he spoke the following words (Mark 16:17, 18): "These signs shall follow them that believe; . . . they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
