In "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy tells us (p. 330), "It is good to talk with our past hours, and learn what report they bear, and how they might have reported more spiritual growth." Growth in spiritual understanding is the true measure of progress. We find that every problem we experience and solve through our understanding of Christian Science forwards our spiritual progress.

My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was an infant suffering from pneumonia. The attending physician said there was nothing further he could do for me, and that I had but a few hours left to live. My grandfather, who had had a healing in Christian Science, asked my mother to call a Christian Science practitioner for help. This was done as a last resort. He took up the work immediately, and by the time he reached our home, I had fallen into a normal sleep instead of being in a coma.

The practitioner lovingly explained to my mother the true nature of God, His all-power and His love and ever-present care for all of His children. I slept all night and awoke the following morning completely healed.
