As a girl of seventeen my mother...

As a girl of seventeen my mother sustained an injury to her back which resulted in a spinal curvature. This condition caused great suffering over a period of years, and at times she was confined to bed. One day a kind friend called on her and offered to loan her a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The help and inspiration which she received from the friend were so great that the following day my mother arose from her bed and did not return to it.

A few days after she began the study of Science and Health, she was standing in her kitchen when suddenly her back snapped into place, and she enjoyed the first deep breath she had experienced in years. She at once became a consecrated student of Christian Science, and I was later enrolled in the Sunday School.

The time came during my teenage years when I had to embrace a much deeper study of Christian Science and to prove my own understanding. I was attacked by three very trying illnesses within a period of a few years. The first one was a case of eczema which covered my entire body. The healing came slowly, but through the help of one of the early workers in our movement it was accomplished. This healing has been permanent, and I have been free from blemishes since then.
