My heart overflows with gratitude...

My heart overflows with gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for her discovery of Christian Science—the gift of gifts to all mankind. Through the study of this wonderful Science, I have found the living God. I owe everything I am today to Christian Science. It would take pages to record all that this religion has done for me and mine. It has proved to me that God never made a poor, sick, or sinful mortal, but that the man whom God made is nearer to Him than the air we breathe.

I should like to tell of one outstanding experience which we had in our family. During the Second World War my son was serving in the Army Air Corps as a warrant officer in the southern part of the United States. One day I received a message from him stating that he was about to be sent to a foreign country. In his letter he said, "I will call you to say good-bye before I leave."

After reading his letter and retiring for the night, I felt very much disturbed. As usual, I prayed as we are taught to do in Christian Science, because I knew that a disturbed feeling came not from God. As I prayed, I knew that the answer was right there; so I said, "Heavenly Father, I am listening." And as I listened this thought came to me: There are no foreign countries to be sent to. The only things foreign to God are hate, jealousy, greed, wars, rumors of wars, and the like.
