"THE POWER OF AN ENDLESS LIFE"

Statistics show that mankind's expectancy of life has greatly increased during recent years. This fact is giving grave concern to those governments desirous of caring for the needs of what they call their aging populations. Indeed, it would seem that future generations could be sorely burdened by the financial requirements of growing numbers of aged people. And often increased longevity is accompanied by decreased opportunity for useful service, which means mere existence, but not vigorous life.

But what has Christian Science to say about all this? In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 126), "I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles."

The Bible records instances of undiminished vigor: of the vitality expressed by Abraham, who, when about one hundred years old, ran to minister to the needs of his angel visitants that had brought to him the good news of the advent of a much-desired son; of the perfect health and activity of Caleb at the age of eighty-five years; and of Moses, whose sight and vigor were untouched by age when he was one hundred and twenty years old.
