THE HEALING PRESENCE AND POWER OF THE CHRIST

The infinite and ever-available Christ as demonstrated by Jesus, our great Way-shower, is manifestly present now to heal and to save mankind. In the nearly two thousand years since Jesus walked the earth, mankind has proved in varying degrees that the presence of the Christ in human consciousness is adequate to defeat evil at every point at which it tries to appear. It was not, however, until Mary Baker Eddy discovered and founded Christian Science that the world was given a positive rule whereby the Christ could be demonstrated in human experience with scientific certainty.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy defines "Christ" as "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (p. 583). Therefore we can think of the Christ as the active manifestation of good, which is ever available. The Christ, when understood, becomes clearly evident in our experience as a power without equal or opposition. Christian Scientists are proving the healing presence and power of the Christ in their daily affairs.

The "man full of leprosy" who said to Jesus (Luke 5:12), "Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean," must have felt the presence of the healing Christ. Jesus made the simple but profound reply, "I will: be thou clean," and immediately the condition of leprosy was erased. A clear explanation of healings such as this one and others performed by Jesus is found in Science and Health (pp. 476, 477). Here Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."
