"The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." These inspired words of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, are to be found on page I of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Many years ago I was troubled with a goiter. One day while I was returning home from the city, the condition became aggressively painful. It was necessary to catch a ferry to reach my destination, and as I walked onto the wharf I came into contact with the alighting passengers. Suddenly I came face to face with a woman with a physical condition such as I had, and it was manifested in an advanced stage.

Immediately I found myself declaring silently but emphatically: "That condition is not true. It is not of God. He never made it; therefore He knows it not, and there is no life nor reality in that manifestation." My silent positive declarations were persistent as to the allness of God's power and presence. When taking a seat in quiet part of the ferry, I found myself still declaring God's goodness and omnipotence. Suddenly I felt a movement in my neck, as though something had turned over in it, and the goiter harmoniously and painlessly disappeared. It just was not, and it has never appeared since.
