I should like to express my sincere...

I should like to express my sincere gratitude to God, as well as to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Having been reared in Christian Science, I have experienced various healings, among which were those of ivy poisoning, ringworm, and various children's diseases. These problems were met quickly and effortlessly on my part, because I merely brought them to my mother's attention and awaited the results of her good work.

Later, while going through a period of doubt and skepticism, I often thought of these early healings, but was tempted to say that they would have happened anyway. Then an experience occurred which proved beyond all doubt the ever-present power of God, good. I had a very painful attack of what I believe would have been diagnosed as acute appendicitis. A practitioner was called, and relief from pain came almost immediately. I slept comfortably that night, and the next day I could walk around the house and yard. However, I was still unable to lift my right leg more than a few inches off the ground. Help was lovingly continued for two days, and on the third day I ran effortlessly up the fifty-four steps from the beach to the house, two at a time, to answer a telephone call.
