TRUE WEALTH

One of the basic changes which appear in our thinking when we commence the study of Christian Science concerns income. Formerly we may have considered income in terms of accretion and assessed man's wealth as property, lands, and investments. Christian Science teaches that Spirit, God, is substance and the source of all real supply. This is a revolutionary and challenging fact for the new student of Christian Science to ponder and assimilate. Here he sees that real income is the acceptance by the individual of the ideas of God. True wealth is manifested as we realize Love's ever-present abundance.

Upon uniting with a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, the new student of Christian Science finds for the first time that one of his obligations is to work together with his fellow members to maintain an adequate income to meet church expenses. Although branch churches elect a treasurer and sometimes appoint a finance committee, it is not the sole responsibility of these particular members to demonstrate supply for the church. Each individual member has his work to do to help maintain its finances on a sound basis. A branch church is as prosperous as the individual thinking of the members makes it, no more and no less. Where there is an active membership, manifesting the healing Christ, there is bound to be a well-balanced church economy.

Sometimes, and especially in smaller churches, financial commitments may seem to be a burden on the membership. This situation can prove to be an opportunity for the individual member to grow further in spiritual understanding, and thus experience a fuller unfoldment of the infinite resources of Mind.
