For twenty-three years I have enjoyed the health, peace, and protection that only Christian Science can give. In 1930 I found myself in a hospital with tuberculosis. I had no hope of recovery, as my mother had passed on with the same disease.

Learning of my need, a friend sent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. To me this was the "cup of cold water" described by Mrs. Eddy on page 570 of this book, where she says: "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." I was one of the millions who were "waiting and watching."

The logic of the textbook was evident to me, for I had never believed in a God who was good and evil at the same time; and I felt enfolded by the love of God which it revealed. All thought of a physical healing was forgotten as I read throughout that day and night. The next morning the doctors found all symptoms of the tuberculosis gone. They spent three or four days trying to determine what had taken place; then after many tests they discharged me.
